MGR won the election in 1980 28th may defeating M. Karunanidhi , MGR government cancelled by president by Central DMK and Indira Gandhi due to his support to Janata party while he supported Indira previously.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam allied with Indian National Congress (Indira) in 1977 parliamentary election later Janata Party won the election while Morarji Desai became the Prime Minister, M. G. Ramachandran supported charan singh of Janata party. DMK and Indira won in Lok sabha electionin 1980 made the state government cancelled.
